The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 40 year old man, Abubakar Sadiq, over the murder of his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, in Boga Village, Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
Police said the suspect, who is the deceased’s younger brother, was arrested following credible intelligence by operatives attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with professional hunters.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on January 20, 2026, when Alhaji Kawu Boga was allegedly killed under circumstances now linked to a criminal conspiracy involving the suspect and five others.
During interrogation, Abubakar Sadiq reportedly confessed to the crime and led police to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle allegedly used in carrying out the killing, along with 24 rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigations led to the identification of two other suspects — Jalo Hamiyu (35) and Umar Baba (41), both residents of Fotta Village, also in Gombi LGA.
Police said a joint operation involving officers, hunters, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force was carried out to arrest the duo. However, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the operatives in an attempt to escape, resulting in a gun duel during which both men were neutralised.
Additional weapons recovered from the scene include one locally made single-barrel rifle and one Dane gun.
The Police Command noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network who are currently at large.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the gallantry and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation, assuring residents of the Command’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also urged members of the public to support security agencies with timely and useful information to aid crime-fighting efforts.
Police said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
