Fresh violence has erupted in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State after suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly overran Shuweri and Kirchinga communities, leaving at least 13 people feared dead.
Local sources said the attackers stormed the affected towns in the early hours, firing sporadically and setting homes and other structures ablaze. As of the time of filing this report, large sections of Shuweri were said to be engulfed in flames, with residents fleeing into nearby bushes to escape the onslaught.
The assault, which occurred in the hometown of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has heightened fears among residents, as security operatives reportedly struggled to repel the attackers and restore calm.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos as families abandoned their homes amid gunfire. Casualty figures remain unconfirmed by authorities, but community sources say no fewer than 13 persons may have lost their lives in the attack.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from security agencies were ongoing at the time of this report.
