Four women have lost their lives and 26 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a ghastly motor accident along the Yola–Mubi Road in Adamawa State.
The crash occurred on Monday evening as a group of women travelled to attend the Annual Convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) in Demsa Local Government Area.
The Deputy Chairman of Song Local Government Area, Donan Prambe, who witnessed the incident, said the victims were members of LCCN Simra in Dumne town.
“I was driving behind the vehicle when, all of a sudden, I saw it start somersaulting into the bush,” she recounted.
According to her, three women died instantly at the scene, while several others were found unconscious and covered in blood. A fourth victim later succumbed to injuries.
The deceased and the injured were evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola for medical attention.
When contacted, the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Dauda Wadinga, declined detailed comments, stating, “Please, I can’t talk now; we are treating those who were brought in alive.”
The spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje, said he would provide further details after consulting the Divisional Police Officer in the area. As of the time of filing this report, no official update had been received.
This latest tragedy comes barely a year after another group of LCCN women travelling to the same annual convention was involved in a fatal accident at the same location, raising fresh concerns about safety along the busy highway.
