Yola, Adamawa State — In a dramatic political development, the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, on Friday officially defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statewide broadcast monitored across Adamawa, Governor Fintiri announced that he was leaving the PDP alongside his entire cabinet, key political appointees, and party executives across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Describing the move as a strategic decision taken in the “overall developmental interest of the people of Adamawa State,” the governor said the defection followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, traditional leaders, youth groups, and community representatives.
“This decision was not taken lightly,” Fintiri said during the broadcast. “After wide consultations and careful consideration of the political and developmental realities before us, we have resolved to align with the All Progressives Congress to secure greater opportunities for Adamawa State.”
The governor confirmed that members of the State Executive Council, commissioners, advisers, and local government party officials have all agreed to join him in the APC, signaling a major political realignment in the state.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that his defection was not driven by personal ambition but by what he termed “a practical pathway to accelerated development.”
According to him, aligning with the ruling party at the federal level would enhance Adamawa’s access to infrastructure funding, federal projects, and strategic partnerships.
“Our priority remains the welfare, security, and economic prosperity of Adamawa people. This alignment will position our state for increased federal collaboration and sustainable growth,”.
Governor Fintiri urged his supporters to register with the All Progressives Congress, assuring residents that his administration remains committed to delivering on its development agenda regardless of party affiliation. He reaffirmed his focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, empowerment, job creation, and scholarships, describing the defection as a decisive step toward a more prosperous future for Adamawa State.
