The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has officially received Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, into its fold.
Abba formally completed his APC membership registration today the 26th of January at Gwadabawa ward, Yola North Local Government Area of the State, an action that has stirred political conversations across the state and beyond, given recent political realignments within his family.
The development comes amid the defection of his father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is currently positioning himself as a presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Contrary to widespread expectations that he would follow his father’s political path, Abba Atiku Abubakar’s decision to join the APC has been described by party leaders as a bold and independent move.
The registration ceremony took place in the presence of APC stakeholders from across Adamawa State, underscoring the significance the party attaches to his defection.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the APC in Adamawa State, Idris Shuaibu, commended Abba for what he described as courage and political independence. He urged the new entrant to deploy his wealth of knowledge, experience, and capacity to strengthen the party and contribute meaningfully to its growth in the state.
In his remarks, Abba Atiku Abubakar expressed optimism about the future of the APC, declaring his confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and his expectation that the President would secure re-election in the 2027 general elections.
He pledged loyalty to the party and assured members that he would not disappoint, promising to work assiduously to advance the ideals and objectives of the APC in Adamawa State.
